Radiooo silence for a month, but now I’m back! Have I got some news for you all!
Media technology engineering.. What exactly is that, I hear you ask! Well, it is a mixture of sorts, combining typical engineering courses like physics, calculus, linear algebra, algorithms & complexity, along with courses like photography and software/hardware design, coupled with courses such as human-computer interaction, and to top it all off: business. The goal is to teach students how to use existing media (or develop new forms of it) to shape media and communication. You’ll find media tech engineers anywhere where interfaces or user-machine stuff exists. From the dashboard of a car, to digital media production, web development, game design, VR/AR, advertising, and even in social robotics or academic research. I suppose it would be the child of computer engineering, and electrical engineering, sprinkled with… a media degree? Perhaps!
So why am I telling you all this? Well, I’m switching to this major. Along with my wife! After a long discussion, I figured out that my skills - our skills - would be better put to use in this way. My wife and I have previously ran a hobby company together, and tried a lot of different forms of entrepreneurship, and also created media (like games) together, and that way of working together has been very enjoyable for us. Not only would this boost our morale a lot, but would also make sure we could support each other through the studies together! We have this dream of one day starting our own company together, and taking this step would be a great starting point! First, I’ll apply to the programme this year at The Royal Institute of Technology KTH, and next year she will do that as well.
I am sort of like a jack of all trades, which makes this programme perfect. Furthermore, my wife is very creative and knows how to combine different skillsets together. I am excited to embark on this new journey together with my wife, and will keep you all updated! Three years of media tech engineering, and the last two years will be a master’s programme specialisation of our choice. We’ll see where this leads!
Until next time,
Ael
