Tomorrow's the day!

Tomorrow’s the day! I start my first day at the engineering degree programme in media technology, while my wife starts at the technology foundation programme so she can join me next year at the same engineering programme 🔖. I feel excited to be learning new things, somewhat nervous because it’s a new start for me, and also looking forward to meeting new people!

I’ve been waiting for a long time to find a programme that feels right for me, and I hope that this is it. It does feel that way, something I haven’t felt before while being in other programmes, at least.

In preparation for the big day tomorrow, my wife and I have deep-cleaned our house, fixed new clothes, gotten ourselves new hairstyles, and just generally gotten in shape. We’ve also made plans for what foods we’re going to eat, when we’re going to wash our clothes, when we’re going to do this or that, as this is the first time we’ll be studying at 100% pace simultaneously. And man, I’m worn out now by all the planning and fixing as we’ve been doing it for a whole week! I’m so glad we did it though.

The first thing that’s going to happen tomorrow is that both me and my wife are going to wake up at 7 o’clock to prepare for school start. Wife has her obligatory “upprop” at 8.30, which is kind of like a meeting where Swedish students have to attend to show that they wish to keep their slot at the programme. I have my own upprop at 10.00. I wonder what I’m going to talk about, the kinds of people I’ll meet, and the kinds of activities we’re going to do. Usually, at Swedish universities, there are “mottagningsveckor”, which are introduction weeks with games, fun, food, dinners etc. handled by senior students. I’m going to try to attend everything, but will most likely skip anything involving too much “physical” strain. Yes, I am an old young person 🧑‍🌾.

I’m not expecting the weather to do me any favours, and fully expect my new hairstyle to fly away, warp, twist, and turn into a hideous monstrosity.. That’s why I’ll be applying gel! Or spray? I hope it’s not too windy, but rain I would not mind.
